As Data SEA’s Field CTO, Nick Barretta leads all client-facing technical operations and spearheads the development of Lakehouse Landing Zone – our turn-key solution for quickly standing up a production-grade data lakehouse platform in a customer’s environment. Nick has over ten years of experience architecting and implementing cloud-based distributed systems. He believes that businesses will increasingly differentiate themselves by how well they are able to own and explain their own data operations, and he is passionate about helping clients large and small build and operate production-quality data platforms that are both cost-effective and performant.  

Nick has been operating as an independent consultant since 2022, working with clients across Canada on a variety of different projects before deciding to focus on the data space exclusively. He has been working with Data SEA since 2023, and prior to starting his consulting practice, was a solutions architect at AWS, Google Cloud, and Databricks.  

Graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, a language he still actively uses today. Outside of work, he has a stereotypically Canadian interest in hockey, especially the statistical side. He also runs year-round, and loves Toronto for being such a runnable and walkable city. Walking dates with his family are his favourite way to spend his free time.
